چکیده

One hundred adult South African Negro skulls having a complete maxillary dentition were examined for the pre sence of dehiscence and fenestrations o f the labial or buccal alveolar plate. The defects were diagnosed ac cording to the definition in the Journal o f Periodontology, Glossary.of Terms (1977). It was found that 8,4 per cent o f teeth had either dehiscences or fenestrations and 28,5 per cent o f the maxillary first molars had a de fective alveolar covering and that this tooth was the most common tooth in the mouth to have fenestrations and dehiscences. It is postulated that the proximity o f the maxillary first molar to the zygomatic pillar could play a role in the occurrence o f these bony defects. OPSOMMING

Guided bone regeneration for dehiscence and fenestration defects on implants using an absorbable polymer barrier.

BACKGROUND Guided bone regeneration (GBR) using a non-absorbable barrier has provided clinicians the ability to place implants in sites compromised by insufficient bone, including immediate extraction sites. Recent evidence suggests that successful GBR outcomes may be possible using bioabsorbable polymer barriers. METHODS This report presents a case series of 9 patients with 8 fenestration an...

Implant treatment without bone grafting in severely resorbed edentulous maxillae.

PURPOSE This article describes the surgical technique for implant treatment in severely resorbed edentulous maxillae without any alveolar reconstruction before or combined with implant placement. PATIENTS AND MATERIAL Fifteen patients with severely resorbed edentulous maxillae were treated with osseointegrated implants and fixed dental prostheses. All patients were initially considered to be ...

Evaluation of alveolar bone loss following rapid maxillary expansion using cone-beam computed tomography

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the changes in cortical bone thickness, alveolar bone height, and the incidence of dehiscence and fenestration in the surrounding alveolar bone of posterior teeth after rapid maxillary expansion (RME) treatment using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). METHODS The CBCT records of 20 subjects (9 boys, mean age: 13.97 ± 1.17 years; 11 girls, mean age: 13.53 ± 2.12 year) ...

Biology of the Alveolar Bone: Orthodontic Tissue Regeneration (OTR)

Today the treatment of adult patients with complex dental problems often requires an interdisciplinary collaboration between different specialties of dental medicine among them frequently orthodontics: interdisciplinary orthodontics. The advancements in material science, biomechanics and in understanding the biology of the alveolar bone led to improved treatments of cases that once seem to be h...

Preliminary evaluation of a three-dimensional, customized, and preformed titanium mesh in peri-implant alveolar bone regeneration

OBJECTIVES The purpose of this preliminary study is to evaluate the effectiveness of a customized, three-dimensional, preformed titanium mesh as a barrier membrane for peri-implant alveolar bone regeneration. MATERIALS AND METHODS Ten patients were recruited for this study. At the time of implant placement, all patients had fenestration or a dehiscence defect around the implant fixture. A mix...
